Tazmanian Devil

   Matt Limbaugh (A.M. Limbaugh, III)

My friends call me Music Man Taz because of my vast Tazmanian Devil collection.
I like to think I'm more like the one on the right, but...

I was born on July 14, 1949, the third of nine children of A.M. and Margaret Limbaugh, Jr., in Greenville, SC.  We moved to Easley, SC when I was four years old, and I have lived there since.  I attended Wren Elementary and High Schools, Piedmont, SC, and graduated in 1967 as salutatorian of my class.  I attended North Greenville Junior College in Tigerville, SC, and graduated with an A.A. in Music with vocal performance as a major and organ as a minor.  I studied voice with Dwight Robinson, organ with Joyce Farrow, and piano with Sam Driggers.  I transferred in 1969 to Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, after auditioning and receiving an organ scholarship. I graduated Cum Laude in 1971 with a B.M. degree in church music with organ as my major instrument.  I studied organ with Mary Charlotte Ball while there.

I began piano lessons at the age of twelve with Jean Campbell Vinson, who was our church organist at the time.  I studied with her for three years and during my senior year studied organ with Dixie Walker of Easley. I was elected organist at my home church, Corinth Baptist in Easley, when I was sixteen years old and remained in that position until moving to Jefferson City to attend Carson-Newman.

After graduating from Carson-Newman I became part time organist at Calvary Hill Baptist Church where I met my wife to be, Sandra Capps, who was my assistant organist, and we were married in 1974.   I was employed full time at the Roger Williams International Music Center in Greenville, SC as music instructor and piano and organ demonstrator.  I left RWIMC in 1976 and worked for twenty years as a partner in my father’s home construction business as cabinet builder and finish carpenter. During that time I served First Baptist Church in Williamston, SC for nine years as part time Minister of Music, and First Baptist Church in Mauldin, SC as part time Organist/Music Associate/Youth Choir Accompanist.  In 1996 First Baptist of Mauldin called me to a full time position as Minister of Senior Adults/Music Associate/Organist where I remain after nineteen years all together.

Sandy and I are proud parents of two sons, Matthew and Abram, our daughter-in-law, Angie, Matthew’s wife, and two grandchildren, Mikey, and Daelynne.
